Wade Davis

this is the cactus known as Wade Davis, re-introduced by Earthways Nursery

unknown but speculated to possibly be the giant serpent plant of the essay although there is at least one other well-known cactus associated with Wade Davis

“A few years back [from 2023] he had to let go of his collection and I was sent a box of cuts. There was a small piece in there labeled Wade Davis. This was supposedly spread among a few collectors in the early 90's and originated with Mr. Davis. I have never gotten a positive ID that this is the plant of lore. However, I have never seen or heard of any other plants associated with him. 🙂💚🌵”

Found three miles from Huancabamba, a single plant covered 1/4 acre growing to 45’ tall. Davis collected a few cuttings from the edge of the plant before learning that it is so large because it is protected by an enormous serpent living at the center of the plant.
