"There's nothing I enjoy more than working in clay to create... archaeological replicas of objects the ancients used in celebrations and religious rites. It's an incredible feeling!"
Standing with open arms, Ynocencio Ccahuana presents this female cuchimilco statuette proudly represents Peru's Chancay culture, which flourished from 1200 to 1470 A.D. Cuchimilcos are always found in pairs of a man and a woman, and feature a large head with small arms extended upwards, resembling wings. Their welcoming posture is believed be a sign of protection.
