Also known as Wiracocha, the 'God of Wands' adorns the domed lid of this beautiful jewelry chest from Peru's Rios Family. Wiracocha was the great creator deity in pre-Inca and Inca mythology, and was typically pictured holding a staff in each hand. Artisans cover the wooden chest with hand-embossed leather that is covered with Inca motifs. Inside, a divided tray can be lifted out to reveal an undivided compartment beneath. Bronze hardware and a bronze key with a leather fob complete the design.
